This new moon will occur in sidereal Scorpio, in the lunar mansion of Anuradha. The new moon is when the moon is dark and not reflecting light from the Sun. It is like a dark seed planted in the sky in which we can set our hearts intention. The new moon is always a notorious time for intention setting..
The moon is a planet that is seeking safety, security, consistency and pleasure. The moon is constantly waxing and waning, which is why it thrives in the grounded and predictable sign of Taurus. When the moon is in the sign of Taurus, it is in its sign of exaltation. Opposite of the sign of Taurus is Scorpio, the “fallen sign” of the moon, or its point of debilitation.
The sign of Scorpio creates tides for the gentle moon. This is a time that offers deep, personal transformation and discoveries. This could be a time where something is revealed in your personal life, about a friend, about a partner, or even about yourself. We should be watching for truths coming to light or “skeletons being revealed” around this period. The desire to be manipulative, cunning, or controlling may arise. It’s possible those close to you may be demonstrating this behavior. Be careful. This behavior could lead to some pretty big arguments.
Anuradha is a beautiful nakshatra. It is an asterism ruled by Saturn and related to the goddess Radha. The energy of Anuradha is all about devotion, service, friendship, and gentleness. This offers a moment to contemplate what is worth devoting our life to? Sometimes we get swept away with a bigger picture, but our devotion is really revealed in the day-to-day. If someone observed your daily routine, what it would seem your time was devoted to? What changes should be made to reach your highest potential? This is a very powerful time to set intentions around daily routines and devotion - whether that be an activity for yourself, to a loved one, to a plant, God, etc.
In addition to being debilitated, the Moon is aspected by Saturn, Rahu, and Jupiter… AND conjunct a retrograding Mercury! The windy energy of Saturn and Rahu can churn some unexpected emotional tides. Be mindful of impulsivity from yourself or others. Try to offer steadiness and compassion if those around seem to be more irritable. For oneself, it is best to try and be extra mindful of our own impulsive behavior, outbursts, irrational fears, controlling behavior, or manipulative tendencies.
Mercury retrograde in Scorpio will take place from November 25, 2024 - December 15, 2024. Mercury RX is very well known for its “humorous” games by wrecking havoc on technology, communication, digital devices, or travel. But this year, the RX will occur in SCORPIO. Certainly, this is a time when matters will be revealed that may feel surprising. I always think about Ketu in Scorpio and how it revealed all of this mess about Jeffrey Epstein! Let’s see what comes out of the wood work this time! Scorpio is the deep crevices of secrecy, the taboo, and the esoteric. Be watching in the world around for all of these matters.
Scorpio is also governed by Mars, which is currently debilitated. The matters coming up to the surface are sure to cause chaos, anger, and confusion. Globally, we can absolutely anticipate big truths coming to light about those in politics. It’s going to be a mess with people trying to reveal the truth while others try to cover it up. Try not to get too swept away from the drama… because it will be drama! To be honest, the week of the new moon may bring a particularly bleak energy for the collective.
On the plus side, on a personal level, this is a great time for personal growth, alchemy, and reviewing cataclysmic moments in time. If there have been great moments in time that have totally shifted your life or perspective, it’s possible that there is something that comes back up for you to complete, heal, or integrate.
It’s also possible that old secrets come back up - so be mindful with that!
New Moon in Scorpio offers an incredible opportunity for intention setting, particularly around growth and development. It could also involve passion, courage, or spirituality. Mercury retrograde offers the opportunity to integrate matters from the past, or even go back to something that interested you before to continue learning.
